Program Description

Discover a thousand years of history in just one day - from ancient mummies to medieval fortifications and Egypt’s oldest Christian churches.

Your excursion begins with a hotel pick-up, followed by a drive to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC). Here, you’ll explore the story of Egypt from prehistoric times to the modern era. One of the museum’s highlights is the Royal Mummies Hall, where you’ll come face-to-face with the mummies of famous pharaohs, such as Ramses II and Hatshepsut. The museum also features a rich collection of artefacts, pottery, textiles, and statues, together painting a fascinating picture of the evolution of Egyptian civilisation.

The next stop is the Cairo Citadel, a mighty fortress built in the 12th century by Sultan Saladin to defend the city against the Crusaders. From its hilltop location, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Cairo. On clear days, you may even glimpse the outline of the pyramids in the distance.

Then you will see the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, one of the most beautiful examples of Ottoman architecture in Egypt. Its vast domes, marble columns, and the soft glow of light filtering through stained glass windows create an awe-inspiring interior.

After an intense tour, you will have a moment to relax over lunch in a traditional restaurant.

The final part of the day is a guided tour of Old Cairo. In this district, Egypt’s history intersects with three major religions. You’ll visit the Hanging Church (dating back to the 3rd century and built above a Roman gatehouse), the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue, where, according to tradition, the Holy Family once sought refuge.

The day concludes with a return transfer to your hotel.

Please note that the order of visits and the program may be subject to change.

A non-refundable tour (point 2 of the Supplier's Cancellation Terms applies).
